ABOUT US
C.A.R.A. Inc., Coalition Against Rape & Abuse, is a nonprofit organization serving Cape May County residents and visitors impacted by domestic violence and sexual violence. For decades, C.A.R.A. has been a trusted resource in the community, providing free and confidential support to adults, children and families when they need safety, guidance and hope.
Our mission is centered on empowerment and independence. We recognize that every survivor’s experience is different and that the path forward is deeply personal. Our role is to listen without judgment, provide information and options, advocate for each individual’s needs, and help survivors make the decisions that are right for them. C.A.R.A.’s work is grounded in dignity, compassion, confidentiality and respect for survivor choice.
Throughout Cape May County, C.A.R.A. provides a comprehensive network of services for those affected by domestic violence and sexual violence. Support includes 24/7 crisis response, emergency shelter and transitional housing, individual and group counseling, children’s counseling, advocacy, legal representation, information and referrals, support groups and other resources designed to help individuals and families move toward greater safety and independence.
C.A.R.A. is also committed to creating lasting change beyond crisis intervention. Through community education, prevention efforts, outreach and partnerships with other service providers, we work to increase awareness, strengthen resources and help build a Cape May County community where violence and abuse are not accepted or ignored. C.A.R.A. also provides intervention, advocacy and prevention education for individuals impacted by sexual violence and abuse.
For survivors navigating the legal system, C.A.R.A.’s advocacy extends into the courtroom. Its Law Project provides legal representation to Cape May County residents and visitors seeking temporary or final restraining orders, helping survivors understand their rights and feel supported throughout the process.
OUR COMMITMENT
At the heart of C.A.R.A. is the belief that everyone deserves to live free from violence, fear and abuse. Whether someone is experiencing a crisis today, beginning the healing process or working toward a new chapter in life, C.A.R.A. is here to provide compassionate support, meaningful resources and a path toward safety and independence.
You are not alone. There is hope, there is help, and C.A.R.A. is here.
